DeLAND, Fla.- Despite claiming the doubles point to give No. 56 St. John's an early lead in the match, Stetson prevailed in singles action by taking five of six matches to give the Hatters a 5-2 victory.
Classmates Mike Lampa and Valentin Mihai started things off right with an 8-2 win over Cahit Kapukiran and Simon Julin. Senior Vasko Mladenov and sophomore Hugo Morth followed suit by defeating Didrik Berg and Egor Panyushkin, 8-6.
In the final match of the afternoon, Mihai claimed his first singles victory of the season, taking the 7-5, 6-3 win over Hans Adrian Riseng.
St. John's will play its third match in the Sunshine State on Saturday, when the Red Storm travel to Gainesville to take on the No.12 Florida Gators for the ITA Kick Off Weekend. St. John's was selected last season from a draft of the top 60 teams in the Campbell's/ITA Men's Division I rankings.
