QUEENS, N.Y.– Head coach Eric Rebhuhn and the St. John’s men’s tennis team will open the 2014 spring campaign in State College, Pa. this weekend where the Red Storm will take on William & Mary at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Penn State in a noon match on Sunday.

The Red Storm lineup will feature new faces in freshman Freddy Ruiz Acevedo, sophomores Vaidik Munshaw, R.J. Del Nunzio and Lucas Hejhal, junior Erick Reyes and senior Gary Kushnirovich. Del Nunzio, a native of New York, N.Y., returns home after spending his freshman year at Oklahoma State. Reyes joins the Red Storm after spending two seasons at Wichita State where he helped the Shockers win the Missouri Valley Conference Championship last spring. The lone returner from last year’s senior-laden squad is sophomore Michael-John Every, who will bring depth and experience to the young squad.

This fall, St. John’s saw four different singles players claim titles at two different tournaments, the most for the program in one indoor season since 1999. In their first appearances for SJU, Munshaw and Kushnirovich won their singles flights at the Princeton/ Farnsworth Invitational (Sept. 13-15). Acevedo and Del Nunzio also won their flights three weeks later at the Columbia Classic (Oct. 4-6).

The Red Storm finished last season in fifth place at the BIG EAST Championship where they caught fire by winning three out of four matches including wins over higher seeded Connecticut, Georgetown and DePaul.
