QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John’s men’s tennis team will kick off conference action against DePaul on Friday, Jan. 31, at noon at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the 2014 home opener. The Blue Demons, who will hit the road for the first time this season, currently stand at 1-1, 0-0 BIG EAST.
St. John’s opened the spring season on the road last weekend where the Red Storm claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory over William & Mary on Saturday and fell to Penn State, 7-0, on Sunday. Sophomore Vaidik Munshaw was the hero in the Red Storm’s season opening win over the Tribe with his dramatic three-set victory at sixth singles to clinch the match. Sophomores R.J. Del Nunzio, Lucas Hejhal and freshman Robert Livi also tallied singles wins on Saturday, each their first as members of the Red Storm.
After defeating UIC, 6-1, on Jan. 17, DPU were topped by Green Bay, 4-3, on Jan. 25. Friday afternoon’s match will be the Blue Demon’s first road match of the season. The Red Storm (1-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) are 3-0 against DePaul since the Blue Demons joined the conference at the start of the 2005-06 season.
