QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John’s men’s tennis team returns to the courts tomorrow, Feb. 21 when the Red Storm takes on Illinois State at 12 p.m. at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
SJU (2-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) looks to bounce back from a 4-3 loss to George Washington on Feb. 9. In that match, St. John’s let the doubles point slip away before storming back to claim three-straight matches in singles play. The Colonials barely snuck by with a three-set win at sixth singles to clinch the match. This season, three out of the Red Storm’s four matches have been decided by one point, with St. John’s owning a 2-1 record in those decisions.
The Red Storm is 1-1 on the homestand with the loss against George Washington and a conference victory over DePaul on Jan. 31, 4-3.
Illinois State sits at 2-3 overall and 0-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference entering Friday’s match in Queens. The Redbirds have won two of their last three matches with wins over Belmont, 5-2, and Western Michigan, 4-3.
