QUEENS, N.Y. – After going 3-1 on its California road trip including wins over Rice, UC Santa Barbara and No. 49 Santa Clara, the St. John’s men’s tennis team checked in at No. 74 in this week’s ITA Men’s National Team Rankings, released on Monday.
For the Red Storm, the return to polls marks the first time since the week of February 5, 2013 when St. John’s came in at No. 71. SJU started that season positioned at No. 57, the highest preseason ranking in program history.
Freshman Robert Livi tallied his fourth-straight singles victory with a three-set win at fifth singles to clinch the 5-2 victory over the Mustangs on Sunday, the Red Storm’s first win over a nationally ranked opponent since topping No. 74 USF 5-2 on March 24, 2012.
This squad is the fourth in the tenure of head coach Eric Rebhuhn to be ranked nationally in the ITA polls. The program saw its first ranking on March 8, 2011 when the Red Storm came in at No. 64.
