Nov. 2, 2017
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John’s men’s tennis team heads back to New Haven, Conn. for the second-consecutive week as the Red Storm is set to compete in the Connecticut State Championships at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Friday.
How It Works
The tournament, hosted by Yale University, is comprised of players from nine regional teams: Boston College, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Marist, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, St. John’s, and Yale. Both singles and doubles play will be contested throughout the weekend, with play starting on Friday and ending on Sunday.
The singles tournament is broken down into eight draws with eight competitors playing in each draw. Each player is guaranteed three matches inside their own draw with a champion, runner-up, third place, fifth place, and seventh place winners being awarded. The Johnnies will send eight players into the singles draws.
On the doubles side, the tournament features only two draws with 16 teams competing in each draw. Like the singles tournament, all teams are guaranteed three matches. St. John’s sends four doubles teams to the courts, with all four competing in the Doubles A tournament.
