Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Box Score |
"Syracuse really dominated us inside and that was the difference in the game. I thought this was a really big game for them [Syracuse]; they're trying to get into the NCAA Tournament and they knew this was probably a must win game for them. They did a heck of a job and they just killed us inside."
On rebounding against Syracuse:
They did a good job exposing us and taking that away from us. We had some good plays where we had rebounds at the end but they knocked the ball out of our hands. These were determining factors in them winning the game."
On Syracuse's turnover difference from the first half to the second: I think that they were tired and I don't think the pressure was the same as the first half. We lost a little bit of focus and we weren't able to maintain that kind of pressure.
On sophomore point guard Nadirah McKenith being one of the bright spots of the day:
"She had no turnovers on the day and that's pretty outstanding. She's asked to do so much for us and she had to play pretty much the entire game. She's getting in better shape and getting better and better as the season progresses."
On Jennifer Blanding and Amanda Burakoski's contributions:
"I think that both contributed significant minutes. Sometime's Love's [Jennifer Blanding's] minutes aren't that many -- but when she's coming in and giving those guys a rest - it really helps us out a lot."
On St. John's NCAA Tournament chances:
Syracuse Head Coach Quintin Hillsman
"We still have to finish the season strong. We've done a pretty good job of proving to the committee that we're a team worthy of the NCAA Tournament. Our league is incredibly competitive and I think we should get 10 teams in, Syracuse being one of them. I think were still in a good position as long as we take care of our business. Right now, we need to worry about Villanova."
On the team’s comeback strategy:
“We just kept throwing the ball inside. That was something we wanted to do coming into this game. No matter what the score was, we knew we had to get the ball inside.”
On the play of Kayla Alexander:
“She did a really good job of being patient and working hard in the high post.”
On the play of St. John’s:
“You have to give St. John’s credit, they’re a great basketball team. Kim (Barnes-Arico) has done an awesome job, but this is a huge win for us on the road and a great win for our season.”
On playing St. John’s:
“It’s tough because they have some kids on their team that have very specific game skills and they have shooters and several drivers. I thought we did a real good job tonight of recognizing who was in the game and changing up our defense accordingly.”
