Team Notes

  • With the win, St. John’s (10-1) is now 5-0 all-time in the St. John’s- Chartwells Holiday Classic. The Red Storm also improves to 1-0 all-time against Southern Mississippi. 
  • St. John’s played the final 2:13 with only four players on the court due to injuries and foul trouble. 
  • STJ extended its winning streak to nine games and picks up its 12th-consecutive win as the home team, including 11 in Carnesecca Arena. 
  • It is the first time of the season St. John’s has eclipsed the 80-point mark, which last happened in its 91-56 win over Louisville on Feb. 10, 2010. 
  • The 31-point margin is the largest of the season and also the largest since the 35-point win over the Cardinals. 
  • STJ also added a season-high 18 steals and forced 27 turnovers. 
  • St. John’s used a 17-1 run in the first half en route to a 50-22 lead at the half. The Red Storm held the Golden Eagles without a field goal for 5:56 in the first half. 
  • All of St. John’s 10 wins have come by double-digit margins. 
  • St. John’s had four players record double-figure points in the contest, with sophomore Eugeneia McPherson leading the way with a career-high 23 points. Shenneika Smith, Sky Lindsay and Amanda Burakoski recorded 19, 10 and 10 points, respectively. 
  • St. John’s is 3-0 when four score in double figures in 2010-11. 
  • The Red Storm outscored the Golden Eagles, 46-18, in points in the paint, 37-11, in points off turnovers and 10-4 in fast break points. STJ also outscored Southern Mississippi 23-10 in points off the bench. 
  • McPherson’s 23 points marks the fourth time this season STJ has had a 20-point scorer. STJ improves to 3-1 on the season with a 20-point scorer. 
  •  St. John’s will host UCSB for the first time in program history tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the championship game of the tournament, while Southern Mississippi will play Fresno State at noon in the consolation game. 
  • Head coach Kim Barnes Arico last saw UCSB head coach Lindsay Gottleib in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005-06, while Gottlieb was an assistant at Cal. STJ defeated Cal, 78-68, in that matchup. 

Individual Notes

  • McPherson set career highs in points (23), field goals (9), minutes (36) and tied a career high with four steals. It is her fifth double-digit scoring effort of the season and second 20-point game in 2010-11. 
  • Smith’s 19 points marks her third-consecutive game in double figures. It is also the third time this season the sophomore has recorded 18 points or more. 
  • Sophomores Burakoski (27) and Jennifer Blanding (19) as well as freshman Keylantra Langley (16) all played career highs in minutes. 
  • Burakoski scored a season-high 10 points, while Blanding notched a career-high five blocks. 
  • Senior forward Centhya “Coco” Hart also tied a career high with four steals.
