QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John’s women’s basketball team will kick off 2018 on Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena, playing host to Providence at 7 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Pat O’Keefe and Mike Watts on the call.

Following consecutive conference setbacks against Marquette and DePaul, the Red Storm will look to rebound at Carnesecca Area when they host consecutive league games in the upcoming days against Providence (7-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) and Creighton (8-4, 2-0 BIG EAST).

Despite the Johnnies loss to the Blue Demons, senior forward, Maya Singleton tallied her eighth double-double of the season in 23 minutes of play for the Red Storm, scoring a total 13 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. The Indian Head, Md. native also recorded four steals and a pair of blocks.

Two other players finished in double-figures for St. John’s, including three-time BIG EAST Freshman of the week Tiana England, who paced the Red Storm with a team-high 14 points and five assists. Akina Wellere, a Chicago native, registered 11 points upon her return to her hometown in addition to pulling down four rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Tuesday's showdown will be the 66th meeting all-time between St. John's and Providence, a series that has seen the Red Storm win 14 of the last 15 matchups between the two programs. Last season, St. John’s head coach Joe Tartamella notched his 100th career victory against the Friars, becoming the fifth head coach in program history to reach the milestone.

In the last contest between the two teams on Feb. 17, 2017, Aaliyah Lewis paced the Red Storm with a 17-point effort. The matchup also saw Wellere register 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor in a 71-47 victory.

Providence enters Tuesday’s contest on a two-game skid following losses to No. 18 Villanova and Georgetown. The Friars put up a fight against the Wildcats, taking a three-point lead into the fourth quarter before Villanova scored 22 points in the final quarter en route to a 63-55 victory.

Following Tuesday’s showdown, the Red Storm will continue conference play at Carnesecca Arena when it takes on Creighton on Jan 5.
