BIG EAST RELEASE
QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a week that saw senior forward Maya Singleton notch a career-high 19 points, the Indian Head, Md., native was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the sixth time this season, the league announced on Monday.
In a 1-1 week for the Red Storm, the 6-foot senior recorded back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 15.0 points and 14.5 rebounds over the Johnnies' two games.
In Sunday's victory over Georgetown, Singleton posted a career-best 19 points on an 8-of-9 shooting effort from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds to notch her 15th double-double on the season. Singleton continues to lead the BIG EAST in double-doubles and has advance to ninth on the national level.
Despite the Red Storm's loss to Villanova on Friday, Singleton began her strong week with 11 points and 18 rebounds against the Wildcats. The 18-rebound performance marked the sixth time this season that the forward has grabbed 15 boards or more in a game and the third time she has finished with 18 or more caroms.
Overall on the week, Singleton shot 68.4 percent from the field on a 13-for-19 shooting effort. The senior forward, who currently ranks first in the conference during league play for defensive rebounds, grabbed a total 21 over the two game stretch. In addition Singleton came away with four blocks and a trio of steals.
Singleton and the rest of the Red Storm team will be back in action on Friday when the Johnnies return to Carnesecca Area to take on Seton Hall, beginning a three-game home stretch to close regular season play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the live national broadcast airing on FS2.
