Day One Results Follow St. John's women's golf on Twitter
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The St. John’s women’s golf team began their spring slate in Kiawah Island, S.C., on Sunday at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic.
After turning in a first round effort of 12 over par, the Johnnies sit in a tie for 14th place out of 43 competing programs.
Alejandra Sanchez led the Red Storm by shooting a one-over 73, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 eighth. The junior also drained a trio of birdies during Sunday’s round.
Linda Wang and Kaitleen Shee each carded a three-over 75. Wang turned in a terrific effort on the back nine, tallying a bogey-free 35.
Andrea Sanchez rounded out the scoring quartet for the Red Storm, carding a five-over 77.
Lydia Kim, who was competing as an individual, shot a 79 (+7). Sofie Huseby turned in an 87 to round out the Red Storm’s effort on day one.
As a team, College of Charleston enters play on Monday in the top spot as the team shot an even par 288. William & Mary and Murray State rounded out the top three spots after the first round.
Individually, there is a four-way tie entering round two. Valentina Giraldo of Jacksonville State, Alexandra Batista of Stephen F. Austin St., Teresa Conroy of North Florida, and Allison Olberding of William & Mary all sit atop the leaderboard after shooting a three-under 69 on Sunday.
The Johnnies return to the links Monday to finish up round two. The team’s tee time is set for at 8:45 a.m.
