KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C - After finishing in a tie for 17th following two rounds of play, the St. John’s women’s golf team is one of 22 programs who will compete in the Championship round of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Tuesday in an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
Linda Wang led the Red Storm in round two by shooting a one-under 71, highlighted by four birdies. The sophomore has recorded a 146 over two rounds of play, to sit in the top-30 entering round three.
Kaitleen Shee and Andrea Sanchez both carded a three-over 75. In Sanchez’s second round outing, the freshman drained a pair of birdies on the par-4 and 5.
Alejandra Sanchez and Sofie Huseby rounded out the scoring for the Red Storm, carding a 78 and 88. Over two rounds Sanchez has shot a combined 151, while Huseby has turned a 175, respectably. Lydia Kim, who was competing as an individual, shot a 79 (+7) on the day.
As a team, College of Charleston maintains in the top spot after carding a combined 567 (-9), Murray State and Jacksonville State rounded out the top three spots following two rounds of action.
Individually, Valentina Giraldo of Jacksonville State leads the contest after turning a 137 (-7) in two rounds. Victoria Huskey is sitting as runner up with a 138 (-6), while Lyberty Anderson of UNC Wilmington and Mackenzie Butzer from Bethune-Cookman are in a race for third, carding 139 (-5).
The Johnnies return to the links Tuesday to finish up the final round of play. The team’s tee time is set for at 8:45 a.m.
