HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The St. John’s women’s golf team fared well in the first round of its lone home event on Monday at St. Andrews Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Red Storm drained 13 birdies as a team, carding a 312 to finish in second place entering round two.
Sophomores Linda Wang and Kaitleen Shee paced the Johnnies with a round one score of four-over 76 to share the second place spot.
Shee drained a team-high four birdies in the opening round, to tie for the second most in the tournament. Wang’s performance was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five ninth hole, for the lone eagle shot of the day.
Two more Johnnies posted top-10 finishes with freshman Andrea Sanchez (T7) registering the second lowest score with a five-over 77 and individual Sofie Huseby followed, turning in a 78 to tie for ninth.
Rounding out the scoring for the Red Storm were juniors Alejandra Sanchez and Lydia Kim, recording an 83 and 88 to conclude first round play.
As a team, Brown holds a three-stroke lead over the second-place Johnnies, carding a 309 (+21). Individually, Brown’s Brittany Park sits atop the leaderboard after shooting an even par 72 on Monday.
The Red Storm returns to the links on Tuesday for the final round of the St. John’s Women’s Intercollegiate with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
