Red Storm to Host Sixth-Annual St. John's Women's Intercollegiate

QUEENS, N.Y. - Coming off a second place finish at the Brown Bear Invitational, the St. John’s women’s golf team looks to continue rolling at its final event of the fall slate on Oct. 23, as the Red Storm will host its sixth-annual St. John’s Women’s Intercollegiate at the Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hasting-on-Hudson, N.Y.

Last season, the team had success at its lone home event when the Johnnies claimed team medalist honors after seeing three golfers finish in the top-10 (Linda Wang 1st, Kristy Beckwith 2nd, Kaitleen Shee T8th).

About the Tournament

The two-round tournament will take place on Oct. 23-24 at the Saint Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. Play is set to begin at 9:51 a.m. on Monday morning, with action resuming on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. start.

After claiming fourth place in the individual portion of the Brown Bear Invitational, junior Alejandra Sanchez will lead off the lineup for the Johnnies, followed by sophomore Shee. Rounding out the starting five is Lydia Kim, Andrea Sanchez and last year's champion Wang. Redshirt sophomore Sofie Huseby will be playing in the individual slot for St. Johns.

2016 St. John’s Women’s Intercollegiate Results

At the 2016 St. John’s Women’s Intercollegiate, Wang claimed medalist honors after carding a pair of 75s to finish with a 150 (+6) for her first-career medal. Finishing right behind Wang was teammate Kristy Beckwith after posting a seven-over 151.

As a team, the Johnnies claimed medalist honors after registering a 627(+51) to turn in their scorecard 17 strokes ahead of second-place Quinnipiac.

About the Course

The Saint Andrew's Golf Club is most well known as, "The Oldest Golf Club in America" since its inception in 1888. The 5,802-yard, par-72 course has a slope of 137 and a rating of 75.1.

About the Field

The field will include six programs: Brown, Fairfield, Hofstra, Quinnipiac, St. Francis (N.Y.), and St. John's, with the Red Storm and Bobcats each having an individual participating in the tournament.

Live scoring will not be available for the tournament, but results will be posted to following the conclusion of each round.
