QUEENS, N.Y. - Stony Brook, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2011) - St. John's women's soccer closed out the 2011 preseason on top, as the Red Storm shut out its second opponent this week with a 3-0 exhibition-victory at Stony Brook on Saturday.
The Red Storm evenly shared the wealth as three different players scored a goal. Freshman Deanna Murino got St. John's on the board first 20 minutes into the first period on a 25-yard shot outside the net. Senior Anna Torregiano followed suit as she scored off a pass from sophomore Amy Marron who picked up the ball from sophomore Sandra Osborn'slong throw in.
The final goal was scored by sophomore Morgan Ritterwho sent the ball past the Stony Brook goaltender inside the far post in the 55th minute of action. Ritter's goal was assisted by Torregiano on a through pass.
The Red Storm and Seawolves played three 30-minute periods in the scrimmage.
Earlier this week, St. John's defeated Long Island University, 1-0.
The season will officially commence on Friday, Aug. 19, when St. John's travels below the Mason Dixon Line to play a pair of first time opponents in William & Mary on Aug. 19 and George Mason on Aug. 21.
