QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer incoming freshman Amy Marron has helped her club team, the Syosset Sting 92 Elite, capture the Region I Under 17 Girls Championship.

The Valhalla, N.Y., native helped lead her squad to a 1-0 victory over the Penn Fusion 92 Gaels on Tuesday to clinch the title. The goal was the first the Gaels allowed in U-17 championship action, including preliminary matches.

Marron was a key contributor in the Syosset Sting's perfect record in championship action, recording five goals including the winner in the 1-0 semifinal victory over Bethesda SC Dragons. Overall, Marron's team outscored its opponents by a margin of 17-1. She has now led her club team to three championships, which included two state titles in 2007 and 2009.

Marron, a prolific scorer on the field, is the New York Section I varsity all-time record holder with 139 goals scored. A Westlake High team captain in 2007, Marron is a three-time NSCAA High School Regional All-American, a three-time all-county first team selection and a four-time all-league and all-section honoree. She is expected to play the forward/midfield position with the Red Storm.
