Vestal, N.Y. – The St. John’s University women’s soccer team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 2-0 loss to the Binghamton University Bearcats on Friday afternoon.

Danielle White scored the game-winning goal for the Bearcats at the 14:20 mark of the first half. Red Storm keeper, Gabriela Franco (Brentwood, N.Y.) deflected the serve of one of the Bearcat’s four first half corner kicks, causing a scramble in front of the net. Kelly Burnam tapped the ball to White, who sent the ball into the upper left corner of the net to put Binghamton up 1-0.

Each team had several first half opportunities with nine shots on goal for Binghamton and seven for the Red Storm. Franco made several impressive saves in the period, including back-to-back breakaway saves, the second of which was followed by a St. John’s foul in the box, resulting in a Binghamton penalty kick. The penalty kick was saved by a diving Franco who stopped the ball from crossing the line in the lower left corner.

The Red Storm narrowly missed a game-tying opportunity in the second half when Lauren McGrory’s (Hauppauge, N.Y.) shot inside the box was deflected by the Bearcat’s netminder and Dominica Reina’s (Frankfort, N.Y.) shot hit the crossbar and bounced out of play.

Binghamton put the game out of reach with 18 minutes remaining in the second half when White broke free on the far right side and launched a shot that hit the corner of the crossbar and was knocked in by Tracy Kasmarcik.

The Red Storm and the Bearcat’s each tallied 23 shots during the game, with Binghamton placing 16 on goal and St. John’s 15. Franco finished the game with a career-high 14 saves.
