MILWAUKEE - The St. John's women's soccer team suffered its first BIG EAST loss on Sunday afternoon, falling to Marquette, 2-0, at Valley Fields in Milwaukee.

The Red Storm (6-2-4) had been unbeaten in its last three contests, including a win and a draw in BIG EAST action.

The Golden Eagles got on the board midway through the first half. Morgan Proffitt sent a long shot from the right side just inside the top left corner, beating a leaping Diana Poulin.

St. John's had an opportunity to net the equalizer less than 10 minutes later when Samie Scaffidi re-directed a ball in the box that Maddy Henry tipped away, keeping it a 1-0 game.

After 45 minutes of play, both teams had five shots and both keepers made three saves. Neither side won a corner kick, but the Red Storm went into the break trailing by a goal.

Early in the second half, the Golden Eagles won the game's first corner and after a scramble in the box, the ball crossed the goal line before the Red Storm defense could clear it, making it 2-0 in favor of Marquette.

With just over a minute remaining in the match, Scaffidi sent another shot on target, but Henry made a diving stop.

The Red Storm returns to action on Thursday, when its hosts Georgetown in a BIG EAST contest at Belson Stadium. The opening kick is slated for 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
