QUEENS, N.Y. - Jen Leaverton, a former standout St. John’s women’s soccer player and current assistant coach under head coach Ian Stone, was recently featured on the United Soccer Coaches Podcast with host Dean Linke.
The United Soccer Coaches Podcast was launched in August of 2016 and has covered the hottest topics in the college game and has featured coaches from various divisions. Back in April of this year, the organization reformatted the podcast to offer episodes every two weeks.
In the podcast, Leaverton touches on what it’s like to come back and coach under Stone following a successful playing career at St. John’s, as well as the influence her father had on her becoming a coach after her playing days were over.
Prior to the start of the 2017 season, Leaverton was named to the United Soccer Coaches 30 Under 30 class, which is a year-long education and mentorship opportunity designed to support up-and-coming members of the coaching profession who are 30 years of age or younger.
Leaverton, who is in her third year as an assistant coach, added the honor to a resume that also includes 2015 NSCAA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year praise and a share of the 2015 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year accolade. Leaverton has been instrumental in guiding the Red Storm to some of its finest seasons in program history, including the team’s first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season title during an historic 2015 campaign.
