QUEENS, N.Y. -
After helping the St. John’s women’s soccer team to a much-needed 1-0 win over Seton Hall at Belson Stadium on Saturday, senior Jesse Schaefer was named the BIG EAST’s Defensive Player of the Week, while junior Christina Bellero and redshirt freshman Jordan Kamp landed on the Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday.

Schaefer picks up her first career BIG EAST weekly honor after anchoring the Red Storm’s back line in its fourth shutout of the season. Through 15 games, the St. John’s defense has held its opponents to one goal or less 12 times. Schaefer was an integral part in a defensive unit that allowed just five total shots and one shot on goal in 90 minutes on Saturday.

Bellero, who finds herself on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season, added to her team-leading point total with her sixth goal of the season in the 68th minute. With the tally, the junior from Melville now ranks third in the league in goals (6) and fourth in points (15).

Kamp stopped the lone shot she faced on Saturday as the redshirt freshman picked up her fifth win and third clean sheet of the season. The Allentown, Pa., native currently ranks among the top 10 in the conference in goals against average (1.05), save percentage (.765) and saves (39) in 11 games this year.

St. John’s is back in action on Thursday when the Johnnies take on Villanova on the road. The Red Storm and Wildcats are scheduled for a 4 p.m. first kick on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
