On March 12, 2011, Joan Leaverton, mother of rising senior Jen Leaverton, lost her battle with breast cancer. In her memory, the St. John's women's soccer team began a school-wide "Score For A Cure" campaign to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research and to aid in the fight against this widespread disease. This indefinite campaign partners the Red Storm women's soccer program with St. John's Student Life and the American Cancer Society.

Since April 2011, the women's soccer team has accepted donations, both online and in person to the Score For A Cure campaign. In addition to donations, the team will also be selling pink t-shirts and red silicone "Believe" bracelets, which will be available at select 2012 home men's and women's soccer games and through the women's soccer office.

The pink t-shirts read "Where there is hope, there can be faith, where there is faith, miracles can happen!"

The Red Storm informally kicked off its Score For A Cure campaign at St. John's sixth-annual Relay For Life, held at Carnesecca Arena on Friday, April 8, 2011. In one night, the team was able to raise $1,692 in t-shirt and bracelet sales, in addition to donations. On April 13, the seventh-annual Relay for Life, the team commemorated the first year of the Score For A Cure campaign by adding $632.

During the 2011 season, the women's soccer team wore pink shoelaces in their cleats. These laces are available through with a donation to the ACS.
