St. John's Falls to Maryland, 3-0|

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The St. John's softball team was unable to get the offense going on Monday afternoon as Maryland topped the Red Storm, 3-0, in College Park.
Despite tossing six scoreless frames to end the game, Tori Free (2-5) was tabbed with the loss after giving up three runs in the first. The senior fanned six and finished with her second complete-game of the season.
However, Madison Martin was impressive holding a Red Storm offense batting .299 on the season to only one hit to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Maryland (7-20-1) wasted no time getting on the board as Skylynne Ellazar opened up the scoring with a two-run single in the first. After an error allowed Ellazar to advance to third, Hannah Dewey made it 3-0 on an RBI single.
Free was in dominant form after a slow first recording six consecutive scoreless frames to keep the score at 3-0.
St. John's threatened in the fourth when junior Lauren Zick ripped her second double of the season to lead off the inning, but Martin was able to escape the inning with no damage.
After going 12-10 in nonconference action, the Red Storm is set to open league play on Saturday with a three-game series against Providence.
