Landini's Three-Run Double Helps Push St. John's Past DePaul, 5-3|

QUEENS, N.Y. -- Led by another strong pitching performance from senior Tori Free and a Monique Landini bases-clearing double in the second, St. John's softball downed DePaul, 5-3, on Sunday at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm sits atop the BIG EAST standings after winning its fifth home contest to improve its record to 19-12 on the season and 7-2 in conference.
Free (5-6) fanned two and allowed three runs on six hits en route to her fifth complete game.
Landini paced the 10-hit attack for the Red Storm finishing 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for her ninth multi-hit performance of the season. Hannah Anderson went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, while Kaitlin Mattera and Lauren Zick each recorded a hit and scored. Gretchen Bowie, Krystal Puga and Savannah Warren all had hits as well.
DePaul opened up the scoring with a run in the first taking advantage of a throwing error to advance two bases from first before scoring on an RBI groundout.
Anderson put the Johnnies on the board in the second with an RBI single to left center. Later in the inning, Landini would give the Red Storm a 4-1 lead when she ripped a bases-clearing three-run double to left center to extend her hit streak to nine.
The Blue Demons added two runs in the third to make it a 4-3 score in favor of St. John's.
The Johnnies tacked on a run in the fifth taking advantage of a DePaul error at third base and a wild pitch from starter Kennedy Garcia to extend its lead to 5-3.
DePaul threatened with base runners on second and third in the seventh, but Free got a groundout to secure St. John's seventh win in nine games.
Next up for the Red Storm is a 3 p.m. showdown at Iona on Wednesday.
