Three Hits Not Enough As Red Storm Suffers 8-0 Loss At Fordham|
April 29, 2015
After sitting down the Red Storm in order to open the game, the Rams found themselves ahead early on thanks to a three-run home run by Kayla Lombardo to give Fordham a 3-0 lead into the second.
Despite a leadoff walk to Erin Burner and a stand-up double down the left-field line by Yvonne Rericha, the Red Storm was unable to plate a run in the top of the second as it stranded a pair of runners on base.
With the help of a run in the second and two more in the third, Fordham was able to extend out to a 6-0 lead before closing the door with two more in the bottom of the fourth to seal an 8-0 victory for the Rams in five innings of play.
Michele Daubman (8-8) earned the victory after throwing all five innings, allowing only three hits while striking out one while Tori Free (9-6) took the loss after only two innings of work, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out one.
Sophomore Brittany Garcia and freshman Lauren Zick picked up the only other two hits for the Red Storm while Monique Landini added another St. John's base runner with a hit-by-pitch in the top of the third.
The Red Storm will return to action this weekend as it wraps up the regular season with a three-game BIG EAST matchup against Villanova on May 2-3. Following Sunday's final game, the Red Storm will honor the squad's four graduating seniors for Senior Day.
