BIG EAST Release
QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a split doubleheader with UC Riverside on Tuesday and a stellar weekend at the plate during the TU Invite, Krystal Puga has been named to the conference’s weekly Honor Roll as announced by the BIG EAST offices on Monday afternoon.
In a Tuesday doubleheader with UC Riverside, the Red Storm claimed a wire-to-wire game two victory that saw Puga get the scoring started early for the Red Storm with a home run to centerfield.
In the long victory for the Red Storm at the TU Invite, St. John’s dominated Quinnipiac with a 9-0 victory behind two home runs and five RBIs by Puga.
With the Johnnies leading the Bobcats, 2-0, Puga belted a solo dinger to right-center field to stretch the Red Storm lead to 3-0 in the 5th inning.
The following inning with St. John’s up 5-0, the senior crushed a game-ending grand slam, the second of her career, to left-center field to give the Johnnies a 9-0 win over Quinnipiac.
For the five games, the Los Angeles native tallied five hits, five runs scored, three home runs and six RBIs to help land on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season.
Next up, the Red Storm heads to Fort Collins, Colo., to play in the Colorado State Classic next weekend for its final non-conference tournament of the regular season. The Johnnies begin play on Friday, March 9, against Idaho State at 1:15 p.m. ET followed by a matchup with Colorado State at 5:45 p.m. ET.
