QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John’s softball program was busy in the community on Saturday, visiting First Step Early Childhood Center in Richmond Hill, Queens as part of its service day.

The Johnnies spent time face painting and interacting with the children through arts and crafts. The event included many other outdoor activities that were set up around the center to provide the children with a fun-filled day and give the players an opportunity to give back to the community.

“My favorite part about visiting the center was just seeing the kids faces light up when we were painting with them,” sophomore Gretchen Bowie said. “I am an education major and this opportunity reminded me why I love interacting and playing with kids.”

For the kids at the center this was a special day, but for the St. John’s softball team this event was even more memorable. Especially for junior Madison Morris who spent the day face painting.

“It was so great to watch the kids get so excited about the face painting,” Morris said. “Seeing how happy the kids were just from a simple game or letting me paint their face made the day all worth it.”
