Dec. 10, 2010
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - St. John’s head softball coach Amy Kvilhaug was one of 124 softball coaches honored for reaching various career milestones on Thursday at the Easton Victory Club Luncheon at the 2010 NFCA National Convention at the San Diego Marriott & Marina in San Diego, Calif.
Kvilhaug was one of 22 coaches recognized for passing the 200-win milestone. She earned win no. 200 on March 27, 2010, when the Red Storm defeated Siena, 6-2, in the Coastal Carolina Tournament, a victory that featured a 10-strikeout complete game performance by then-junior pitcher Linzee Sumrall. Kvilhaug has tallied 207 career victories over eight seasons as a head coach. Before coming to St. John’s in 2007, she was the head coach at Radford from 2003-06.
The NFCA/Easton Victory Club recognizes member head coaches for each 100 victories they achieve throughout their careers.
Thursday’s festivities also featured the annual Softball Summit, an open forum for the exchange of ideas concerning the game of softball from NFCA members of every membership classification. This year the members discussed a variety of aspects of the game, including recruiting and playing rules.
Kvilhaug begins her fifth season at St. John’s and ninth as a head coach when the Red Storm opens its 2011 schedule on Feb. 11 against Florida State in the Seminole Kickoff Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
