QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's softball coach Amy Kvilhaug announced on Thursday that catcher/third baseman Michelle Tilson will join the Red Storm softball program as a freshman starting in the 2010-11 academic year. "Michelle is a gritty, hard-working athlete who is a strong competitor," Kvilhaug said. "She will add depth behind the plate and has the ability to play infield and even a little outfield. She's the kind of athlete that will do whatever it takes to help the team get things done." Michelle Tilson -- C/3B, Falls Church, Va., George C. Marshall Tilson, a catcher/third baseman from Falls Church, Va., owns a .378 career batting average through three years at George C. Marshall High School. She boasts a .622 slugging percentage with four home runs. Tilson earned All-Liberty District honors for three-consecutive seasons. She was named first team all-district as a freshman shortstop, second team as sophomore catcher and first team as a junior catcher. As team captain in 2009, she was named the Statesmen's Most Outstanding Player and received the Scholar Athlete Award. Tilson plays travel ball with the Vienna Stars.
