NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Freshman Stephanie Elgegren was a part of two doubles victories against opponents from No. 64 Boston College and Cornell to highlight the action for the St. John's women's tennis team at the Yale Classic over the weekend.
On Friday, the Swede first teamed with classmate Anna Morozova to defeat Cornell's Alexandra D'Ascenzo and Christy Kung, 6-2. Elgegren had a new partner in junior Nastya Polyakova on Saturday but had the same result, a win over Sarah Dalton and Katya Vasilyev of Boston College, 7-5.
In singles action, freshman Puck Vlaskamp capitalized on her solid fall by pulling out a three-set victory over the Big Red's Christy Kung on Friday. Senior Yanita Arnaudova topped Boston College's Emily Safron, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Red Storm a point against the nationally ranked Golden Eagles.
The Red Storm will be back in action for their season opener on Friday, Jan. 24 against Fairfield at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
