QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis had two players compete in the 2007 ITA Eastern Regional Championships hosted by Old Dominion, this past weekend in Norfolk, Va.
Senior Maria Zivcicova lost a tough match to Elyse Steiner from Temple, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in the opening round of the Main-Singles Draw. In the final set of the match, with the games tied at 4-4, Zivcicova dropped a very close, crucial game that gave Steiner the momentum to go on and take the set and match.
Also in singles action, graduate student Alison Adamski was defeated by William & Mary's Lauren Sabacinski, 6-2, 6-0, in the first round of the Singles-Qualifiers.
The two girls then paired up to face more of William & Mary's arsenal. The team dropped its first round Main-Doubles Draw match with the Tribe's Ragini Acharya and Magdalena Bresson, 8-2.
The Red Storm returns to the courts when the team competes in the Brown Tournament in Providence, R.I. this weekend, Oct. 26-28.
