Blessing Egwu begins her first season as an assistant coach with the Red Storm track & field program in 2010.

Egwu is quite familiar with the program after competing as a student-athlete from 2001-06 and serving as a graduate assistant with the St. John's strength and conditioning program from 2008-10.

Holding the school record in the hammer throw with a top throw of 196 feet 6 inches at the 2006 Penn Relays, Egwu also ranks second all-time in the indoor shot put and weight throw and fourth all-time in the outdoor shot put.

Egwu won the 2005 and 2006 BIG EAST titles in the outdoor hammer throw, while earning All-BIG EAST honors in the shot put, weight throw and hammer throw. She earned All-EAST honors at the 2006 Indoor and Outdoor ECAC Championships. Egwu participated in the 2006 NCAA Championships, representing the Red Storm in the hammer throw in Sacramento, Calif.

In 2006, Egwu was named a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American.

While competing as a member of the Nigerian national team, Egwu captured a bronze medal in the hammer throw at the 2006 African Games.

After graduating from St. John's, Egwu worked as a child protective specialist for the Administration of Children's Services. Her main duties included working with lawyers in New York family court to protect abused children.

From 2008 to 2010, Egwu worked as a graduate assistant with the St. John's strength and conditioning program. She helped instruct student-athletes in the fundamentals of lifting and core strength exercises.

Egwu received her undergraduate degree in sports management from St. John's in 2005. She completed her graduate work at St. John's in May of 2010, earning a master's degree in sports management.
