The track & field season officially got underway with the Red Storm throwers competing in the Manhattan Multi-Event over the weekend.
Four student-athletes competed at the event with three of them placing in the top-seven to earn points.
Juniors Natasha Amazan and Danette Hinton were the lone St. John’s participants to place in both throwing events and split the individual titles. Amazan finished third in the weight throw by achieving a 16.08 meter mark and won the shot put by tossing 13.21 meters. Hinton posted a solid 17.60 distance in the weight throw to finish first among the competition and excelled in the shot put with a sixth-place 11.45 meter effort.
Freshman Ann Dagrin finished fifth in the weight throw in her first collegiate meet with a 15.27 meters. She also registered a 10.44 meter mark in the shot put but did not place.
Gina Frisa was the other St. John’s thrower to compete and registered a 12.26 meter mark in the weight throw and a 10.50 meter distance in the shot put.
The entire St. John’s track & field team will be in action as the Red Storm hosts the Bill Ward Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 6 at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y.
