QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a successful weekend at the 2018 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships Presented by Jeep, the St. John’s track and field team heads to Boston for the ECAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
The meet, hosted by Boston University, will take place at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center and brings together many of the top programs in the Northeast.
“We are ready to go for the ECAC Championships after our outstanding performances at the BIG EAST last week,” said St. John’s head coach Jim Hurt.
Leading off the field events, Nyla Woods will look to move to the top of podium at this year’s meet following a second-place finish in the weight throw in 2017. The senior is coming off her third-consecutive weight throw title at the conference championships. Her winning throw finished at 18.86 meters, topping the runner-up by over a meter.
Maya Stephens will compete in the 400-meter dash following her second-straight win in the event last week. The senior’s win marked the fourth-consecutive year that a St. John’s competitor has won the event at the BIG EAST.
The Canadian will team up with Leah Anderson, Antonia Frazier, Kafi Ottley, and Torisha LaForce in the 4x400-meter relay event. Last weekend, the group finished second at the conference championships, and will like to score big in Boston.
Following a pair of podium visits last weekend, Anderson will run in the 200-meter dash and will be joined by Denesha Ransome.
The Red Storm will also send Antonia Howard, Jasmine Burkett, Shannon Page, and Therese Gallagher for the distance medley race. The grouping saw a 23-second improvement at the BIG EAST Championships last weekend in their qualifying effort for this weekend’s meet.
