2014 Season Preview

The 2014 St. John's volleyball season begins on Friday, Aug. 29, with the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. The home opener is on Monday, Sept. 1 against St. Peter's in Taffner Field House (Rec side). The Carnesecca Arena opener is on Friday, Sept. 12 against Dartmouth.

As A Senior (2015): Played in 55 sets across 15 matches, making 10 starts … ranked second on team in assists (430) averaging 7.82 assists per set… ranked fourth on the squad with 163 digs and a 2.96 digs per set average …  finished her career ranked third on the program's all-time list in digs with 1,610 … matched a career-high 52 assists vs. Xavier (Oct. 30).

As A Junior (2014): Played in 117 sets across 32 matches...led the team in digs (524) and was second most with 294 assists...ranked third on the team with 28 aces on the season...racked up 17 assists and 24 digs against St. Francis (N.Y) for one of two double-doubles on the season (Sept. 13)...recorded a career-high 52 assists at Seton Hall (Oct. 1)...notched a career-high 33 digs against Seton Hall (Oct. 30)...ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.48) and ninth in service aces (28) ... a two-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Mention...heading into her senior year, Santos is fourth all-time in digs with 1,447.

As A Sophomore (2013):Played in 119 sets over 32 matches... posted a team-leading digs (572) and digs per set (4.81) and was second most in assists (100), service aces (27) and service aces per set (0.23) ... recorded double-digit digs in 29 of her 32 matches ... recorded 36 total digs in the opening day of the weekend against Binghamton and CCSU (Aug. 30) ... compiled a season-high eight assists as well as 24 digs vs. Villanova (Oct. 12) ... posted 31 digs at home game vs. Butler (Oct. 26) ... picked up 27 digs and two assists vs. Georgetown (Oct. 11) ... registered 27 digs and one kill in win against Creighton (Nov. 1) ... racked up a season-high 32 digs in a five-set win vs. Seton Hall (Sept. 27)... posted a season-high two kills and added 15 digs in a sweep vs. Siena (Sep. 2).

As A Freshman (2012): Played in 116 sets over 32 matches, making 28 starts ... posted the second-most digs (351) and digs per set (3.03) on the squad ... placed fourth on the team in kills (148) and kills per set average (1.28) ... had the second-most service aces (29) and service aces per set (0.25) on the squad ... recorded double-digit digs in 21 matches ... had eight digs vs. then-No. 10 Louisville in the BIG EAST quarterfinals (Nov. 16) ... compiled a season-high five blocks vs. DePaul (Nov. 9) ... collected her first-career double-double with an 11 kill, 11 dig performance at Syracuse (Nov. 2) ... posted 23 digs and added six kills vs. Rutgers (Oct. 28) ... picked up 12 digs, 8 kills, and a service ace at USF (Oct. 21) ... had 13 digs, four kills, a pair of assists, and a service ace vs. then-No. 15 Louisville (Oct. 12) ... registered 18 digs and a block at Notre Dame (Oct. 7) ... racked up a season-high 32 digs in a five-set win vs. Villanova (Sept. 23) ... picked up a season-high five service aces, while adding seven kills and four digs in a road win at LIU Brooklyn (Sept. 15) ... received Kaiser Classic All-Tournament honors after collecting 30 kills and 36 digs over four matches (Sept. 8) ... registered 11 digs, four service aces, and three kills vs. Brown (Sept. 1) ... had 13 digs and five kills in the home opener vs. Siena (Aug. 29)

At Sacred Hearts Academy: A four-year starter ... led the Lancers to a fourth place finish at state championships as a senior ... a member of the school's Honor Roll from 2009-12 ... a co-captain and floor captain from 2011-12 ... also a team captain for her club team, Imi'Ike, in 2012 ... has also been heavily involved with the United States High Performance, Junior National and Junior Olympics squads since 2006 ... guided the GYA Blue High Performance team to a gold medal at the 2011 High Performance Nationals in Tuscon, Ariz. ... has won four total medals with USA High Performance (two gold and two bronze) ... won bronze and earned all-tournament honors at the 2011 Junior National Championships in Atlanta, Ga.

Off the Court: Most thrilling moment of her athletic career was making the U.S. national team in 2012 ... was recruited by numerous Pac-12 and Big 12 schools ... aspires to play professionally, study abroad in Europe, and make the U.S. Olympic team ... if she were Coach Perisco for the day, she would take the team to the beach for a beach volleyball tournament and team bonding ... favorite quote is: "After the many hours of practices and the coaches who have pushed you to your limit, there is a little girl that fell in love with the sport. Play for her" ... most influential person in her athletic career is her father because he has always been there no matter what and will always be her No. 1 fan ... daughter of Shawn and Maria ... has three siblings: Chaz Hew-len, Ha'oli Hew-Len, Shayla-Ann Santos.
