Persico To Be Inducted Into Red & Blue Terrier Ring Of Honor|

QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John’s volleyball head coach Joanne Persico will be inducted into the inaugural Red & Blue Terrier Ring of Honor by her high school, St. Francis Prep on Saturday, March 15 at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y. Persico, a member of the class of ’84, will become the first women’s volleyball inductee at the school.
The first and only head coach of the St. John’s volleyball program has compiled a 387-244 career record while leading the Red Storm for 20 seasons. Since the program’s inception in 1994, she has won three regular season BIG EAST conference championships (2006, 2007, 2008), one BIG EAST Tournament championship (2007), and made two NCAA Tournament appearances (2006, 2007), including one NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance in 2007.
A 2006 and 2007 College Volleyball Update (CVU) Honorable Mention Coach of the Year and the 2006 Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Persico has coached one AVCA All-American and 11 honorable mentions, 15 AVCA Regional All-Americans, two AVCA Northeast Region Freshmen of the Year, two BIG EAST Players of the Year, one CVU National Setter of the Year, two National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-Americans, a three-time winner of the BIG EAST Libero of the Year, one BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and 29 All-BIG EAST selections.
Persico also received the 2006 BIG EAST Coach of the Year honor almost 20 years to the day after being named the 1986 BIG EAST Player of the Year at Syracuse.
