QUEENS, N.Y. – After leading the Red Storm on the defensive end to a come-from-behind victory over Xavier with 25 digs, Amanda Sanabia has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference offices on Tuesday afternoon.
Sanabia, an Annapolis, Md. native, posted a career performance on the defensive side of the ball last Saturday night in a five set thrilling triumph over Xavier at the Cintas Center. The sophomore registered 25 digs to shatter her previous high of 19, which was recorded just one match earlier against Butler.
In a 1-2 week for St. John’s, Sanabia averaged 4.58 digs per set and currently ranks 10th in the BIG EAST in digs as the sophomore puts up 3.44 per set. Sanabia, who tallied 198 digs in 90 sets a season ago, already has 268 digs in 78 sets in 2017.
The BIG EAST weekly accolade is the first in the career for Sanabia as the sophomore joins Erica Di Maulo and Kayley Wood as the three Johnnies to earn a spot on the conference’s honor roll this season.
Sanabia and the Red Storm return to Carnesecca Arena to host BIG EAST foe Georgetown tomorrow night at 7 p.m. and the match will be aired on ESPN3.
