QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a stellar senior campaign to close out an outstanding Red Storm career, Julia Cast was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Offensive Player of the Year and a spot on the All-ECAC First Team as announced by the organization on Thursday morning.
Cast becomes the first Johnny to ever receive ECAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and the first to be recognized from the ECAC since Karin Palgutova was named a Second Team All-Star by the conference in 2014. The Westbury, N.Y., native was the only student-athlete from the BIG EAST to claim a spot on the All-ECAC First Team.
Cast carried the Red Storm offense this past season with 480 kills and 4.03 kills per set, which both ranked second in the BIG EAST and currently inside the top 45 in the nation. She also finished with 1,351 total attacks, the third-most ever in a season by a member of the Johnnies, and her 480 kills was the eighth-most in a single-season in program history.
The Clarke High School product finished her career with 1,154 kills in a terrific four-year stint for the Red Storm to rank ninth in the 24-year history of the program.
Putting up 4.25 points per set, Cast placed third in the BIG EAST and was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 7 and also earned a spot on the Albany Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Cast reached the 20-kill mark on six different occasions this past season and recorded a career-high 30 kills against Stony Brook on Sept. 19. Playing in all 119 sets and 33 matches, she failed to reach double digits in kills just eight times during her senior campaign.
