QUEENS, N.Y. – After earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second-straight year less than three weeks ago, Erica Di Maulo was named AVCA Division I All-East Region honorable mention as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.
The sophomore setter becomes the first Red Storm player since Karin Palgutova in 2014 to be selected East Coast Region Honorable Mention.
The conductor for the St. John’s offense in 2017, Di Maulo dished out 1,253 assists which currently ranks inside the top 40 in the nation. The 6-foot setter led the Red Storm offense to five players with over 200 kills and averaged 10.53 assists per set.
The Milan, Italy, native has played in every match for the Johnnies the last two seasons and provides an integral impact for the Red Storm in all facets of the game. Di Maulo finished second in the BIG EAST with 35 service aces and posted 88 blocks with 2.37 digs per set, both good for third-highest on the squad.
In just two seasons in the red and white, Di Maulo has distributed 2,415 assists, which sits the sophomore in fifth place all-time in program history.
Di Maulo’s other accomplishments this past season includes four All-Tournament Team selections, one BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod and a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team.
