St. John’s cross country will test itself against the northeast’s best at the NCAA Regionals in Madison, Conn. on Nov. 9.
The women’s 6K race is set to begin at 12 p.m. with the men’s 10K race to follow at approximately 1:15 p.m.
The race will be co-hosted by Yale University and Fairfield University at Hammonasset State Park.
The Red Storm finished 29th at last year’s NCAA Northeast Regional meet. Michelle Duffy is the top returning finisher for St. John’s with a time of 24:00.6 at the 2011 competition in Buffalo. Alexis Bean finished sixth on the team at last year’s regional and is coming off a team best top-75 finish at the BIG EAST Championships. Junior Chelsea Trant did not race in last year’s NCAA Northeast Regionals due to injury. Freshmen Kerri Butler, Ashlin Conroy, Veronica Thompson, Michelle Van Pelt and Stephanie Van Pelt will be participating in their first NCAA Northeast Regionals.
St. John’s started the 2012 cross country season strong with titles at both the Hofstra Brick Stone Run and the C.W. Post Invite. St. John’s then placed seventh at the Metropolitan Championships and second at the program’s annual Fall Festival. In the Red Storm’s last race, the team pulled out a 12th-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships.
