About Red Storm Cheerleading
Besides being located in the most exciting city in the world (New York!), St. John's University is home to Red Storm Athletics, with some of the most prominent teams in the nation. The Red Storm basketball games take place at Carnesecca Arena and at Madison Square Garden , the most famous arena in the world! Living down the street from the City That Never Sleeps has its privileges. The squad makes television appearances each year, including commercials, news programs, movie openings and even cheer documentaries. And the Most Famous Arena In The World is never lacking in some of the most famous people in the world.
The St. John's University Cheerleading program consists of male and female students working to make the team skilled and competitive. The team participates in most university athletic events, Big East tournament, collegiate competitions and other school events as well as outside promotional exhibitions, children's clinics, camps, and fundraisers.
Head Coach Carolyn Renda
In 2011-12, Renda entered her first year as head coach of the Red Storm cheerleading squad. A familiar face to Red Storm fans, Renda was a four-year member and two-year captain of the St. John's cheerleading squad. Since graduating in 2009, she has served as the head cheerleading coach at NYIT. With the Bears, she was responsible for all the choreography and instruction of a Division ll cheer squad. From 2009-2011, she was also the gymnastics and choreography coach for Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School cheerleading teams.
