Red Storm women’s basketball rising junior Monique
McLean recently checked in with RedStormSports.com to
answer some questions about campus life during the summer and her
excitement regarding the upcoming 2007-08 women’s hoops
season. Also be sure to check out a photo
gallery from the spring awards banquet.
Red Storm Sports (RSS):Talk about
wrapping up the athletic year at the 61st Annual St. John’s Awards
Banquet.
Monique McLean (MM): It was fun because it’s a
rare time that all the athletes are able to be together on one
night. So it’s nice to be able to celebrate all of St.
John's accomplishments.
RSS: What’s your favorite Red Storm sport, besides
basketball, to watch?
MM: Softball, because I used to play.
RSS: Other than being in summer school, what
activities do you have planned?
MM: Definitely traveling on the weekends. Besides
going home, I’m going to go to Alabama (Joy McCorvey, Angel Tate)
and Texas (Recee Mitchell) to visit some of my teammates!
RSS: What is a typical summer day like for you on
campus?
MM: Well I’ve got class, Spanish I, every morning
at 8:30 a.m. After that I have a Spanish Lab right after that until
12:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., I lift weights. In my free time I’ve
just been hanging out. Next semester I’m taking an English
class.
RSS: What’s one component of your game you’d like to
improve on this summer?
MM: Getting stronger and being better
conditioned.
RSS: Have you gotten a chance to get to know the
incoming class?
MM:Sky Lindsay is here this
summer, so me and her have been hanging out. She lifts with me in
the afternoons and I really like her attitude. She wants to get
better and make an immediate impact. And she’s better in the weight
room than I was when I came in as a freshman.
RSS: Besides traveling, any activities planned in
New York for the summer?
MM: I’m hoping to play in the Empire Games in
July.
RSS: What are you looking forward to about next
season?
MM: Just everybody being healthy and being really
competitive. And getting back to the NCAA Tournament.
