St. John’s head women’s basketball coach Kim Barnes
Arico has been selected as a member of the inaugural class
of the William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame, and will be inducted on
Sept. 15, 2007.
Barnes Arico, a 1988 graduate of William Floyd High School in

Colonials. An all-league and all-county basketball selection,
Barnes Arico set the single-season scoring record while averaging
22 points per game as a senior.
She also participated in softball, cross country, field hockey
and tennis for Floyd.
After graduation from William Floyd, Barnes Arico went on to
play basketball for Stony Brook University and Montclair State
University, graduating from Montclair State in 1993 after lettering
three seasons for the Red Hawks. Following her senior year at
Montclair State, she was selected as the school’s Scholar-Athlete
of the Year.
After successful head coaching stints at Fairleigh
Dickinson-Madison, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Adelphi
University, Barnes Arico became the head coach for St. John’s in
2002.
Barnes Arico was selected as the 2006 BIG EAST Coach of the Year
after leading the Red Storm to the second round of the NCAA
Tournament with a 22-8 overall record. She returns in 2007-08
for her sixth season on the sidelines.
“This really is an honor for me,” Barnes Arico said of the
selection. “I still consider William Floyd home and I’m proud
whenever I go back. I am happy to share this with the other coaches
and alumni of the inaugural class and am looking forward to the
ceremony.”
