BOSTON
The St. John’s University women’s basketball team fell on the
road at Boston University, 83-64, Sunday afternoon at Case
Gymnasium. Tiina Sten led the Red Storm with 17
points, while Recee Mitchell scored 15 points and grabbed four
rebounds in her first collegiate game.
St. John’s started strong and jumped out to a 6-0 lead after
back-to-back baskets by Sten and two free throws from
Monique McLean. After McCorvey converted one of
two free throws, Boston responded with back-to-back 3-pointers and
pulled within one point, 7-6, with 16 minutes left in the first
half.
From there, the Terriers used good outside shooting and
benefited from four first-half 3-pointers by Kristi Dini and
took a 12-point lead into the intermission, 42-30.
In the second half, Dini had the hot hand again, knocking down
two treys to give the Terriers a 56-38 with 13 minutes left. At
that point in the game, the Case Gymnasium fire alarm went off and
the arena was evacuated. Following clearance from the Boston Fire
Department, the game resumed with the Red Storm facing an 18-point
deficit.
For the remainder of the half, the Red Storm would get no
closer than 14 points, and the Terriers won by an eventual score of
83-64.
Angel Tate was also in double figures for St. John's with 11
points.
BU was led by Dini with 24 points.
St. John’s is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 20, when it
faces the North Carolina Tar Heels in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
