St. John's Women's Basketball Falls To No. 2/2 North Carolina, 87-43

Monique McLean and Tiina Sten led St. John’s with 15 and 12 points, respectively, but the Red Storm was defeated Wednesday night by No. 2/2 North Carolina, 87-43, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Erlana Larkins had 17 points and 14 rebounds, Rashanda McCants scored 16 points and LaToya Pringle also had a double-double to keep North Carolina undefeated with its 13th straight win. St. John’s, meanwhile, went to 3-8 overall with the setback.

Angel Tate scored the Red Storm’s first six points of the game, but St. John’s trailed early, 16-6. Back-to-back jumpshots by Sten and Joy McCorvey brought the score to 16-10, but the Tar Heels closed the half on a 29-7 run to take control of the game.

Tate finished with six points and six rebounds, while Sten also contributed six rebounds. McLean was 3-for-7 from 3-point range and had a game-high five steals.

Charisse Curtis got in the scoring column for the Red Storm, hitting a 3-pointer at the end of the first half and finishing with two assists. Nikki Jo Rotolo had five points and three assists.

St. John’s returns to action after Christmas when they travel to Stony Brook for a Dec. 30 game.
