SOUTH BEND, Ind.
The St. John's women's basketball team was defeated by Notre
Dame, 83-65, Tuesday night at the Joyce Center. Monique
McLean led the Red Storm with 19 points.
Kia Wright and Tiina Sten each
added 14 points, while Angel Tate netted 11.
It was a fast-paced first half and the teams traded baskets in
the opening minutes. After Sten hit a 3-pointer with 6:28 left in
the half to put St. John's up, 27-23, Notre Dame responded with an
impressive 17-0 run to take a 42-27 lead at the 2:15 mark.
The Red Storm was able to regroup and a driving layup by Wright
as time expired pulled St. John's within 10 points at 44-34.
In the second half, Notre Dame hit five 3-pointers and shot 48.5
percent from the field to stretch its lead.
The Fighting Irish, behind 31 points from Charel Allen, won by a
final score of 83-65.
St. John's is back in action Sunday at Madison Square Garden
against Connecticut. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 4:30
p.m., following the St. John's men's basketball game against
Syracuse.
