Jackie Smith enters her fifth season as the director of
basketball operations for the Red Storm. Smith serves as the team
travel coordinator, while also managing camps and clinics,
marketing strategies, scheduling and assisting with official
recruiting visits.
Smith also leads the team’s community service efforts throughout
the season, and in 2002-03, the women’s basketball team received
the St. John’s University Community Service Award.
Smith was the recipient of the 2005 University Founder’s Week
Recognition Award, given to members of the University Community
whose service to St. John’s exemplifies the spirit of the
Vincentian Mission.
In 2002, Smith made the move to the BIG EAST after serving as an
assistant coach under Kim Barnes Arico for the two previous seasons
at Adelphi University. While at Adelphi, Smith assisted with the
recruiting process, organized tape exchange, developed preseason
and postseason individual workouts and aided with daily practice
and game strategies.
Smith spent two seasons playing at Nassau, where she was named
to the Junior College All-America Second Team in 1996. After
completion of her associate’s degree from Nassau, she continued her
career at LIU Southampton College, where she was a standout for the
Lady Colonials.
A native of Freeport, N.Y., Smith earned a master of arts in
physical education from Adelphi in 2002.
