Joe Tartamella returned to St. John’s as an assistant coach in
the summer of 2005 and begins his second season with the Red Storm.
Tartamella was a graduate assistant coach during the 2002-03 and
2003-04 seasons while working toward his master’s degree in
marketing management.
As an assistant coach, Tartamella’s responsibilities include
recruiting, post player development, game planning and scouting as
well as assisting the staff with game coaching.
Prior to his time at St. John’s, Tartamella spent a year as an
assistant men’s basketball coach under the direction of head coach
Tom Spina at SUNY Maritime College in Throggs Neck, NY. His
responsibilities included recruiting, developing and implementing
long and short-range strategies and game plans, administering game
plans to players for execution in practice and games and organizing
and implementing pre- and post-season conditioning programs.
Tartamella also served as the Assistant Director of Career Services
at SUNY Maritime College.
A native of St. James, N.Y., Tartamella received his bachelor of
business administration in marketing information systems from James
Madison University in 2001.
