Sophomore women's golfer
Brittany Lambertson (Northport, N.Y.) will host the fourth
annual "Teach To Fight ALS" fundraiser at the Indian Head Golf Park
in Kings Park, N.Y., on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The
fundraiser will feature golf lessons from Lambertson, as well as
other local golf professionals, with proceeds going to the ALS
research foundation and the SaveDaveNow Foundation.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou
Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neuromuscular disease. The fatal
disease deteriorates the muscles in the body, giving those
diagnosed an average of five years to live. There is currently no
known cure for ALS.
Lambertson was inspired to create a fundraiser for the disease
when her senior high school teacher, David Deutsch, was diagnosed
with ALS. Deutsch's condition has deteriorated substantially over
the last three years as he is now confined to a wheelchair. Some
proceeds from the event will go towards a college fund for
Deutsch's two young sons, ages four and seven.
Lambertson has raised more than $20,000 in her last three events
and hopes to continue her success with some support from the
community. Sign ups are not necessary and both children and adults
are welcome. All in attendance will have the opportunity to make a
donation to help this great cause.
