QUEENS, N.Y.
St. John’s and Stony Brook played to a scoreless tie in a
preseason women’s soccer exhibition match on a cool and rainy
Tuesday night at Belson Stadium.
Senior midfielder Erin Bohn had the Red Storm’s
best scoring chance in the first period, a shot that went high over
the crossbar after she had collected a rebound.
Kelly McConnell had notable scoring chances in
the third period, once firing a hard shot right at the Stony Brook
keeper and once missing a shot just left.
Courtney Lane had St. John’s final scoring
opportunity with time nearly expiring in the scrimmage. Lane
controlled a ball in the penalty box and put her shot on goal, but
a Stony Brook defender deflected the ball back into play as the
final minute counted down.
Jaime Beran got the starting nod in goal and
held Stony Brook scoreless through three 30-minute periods.
St. John’s continues its preseason schedule with another home
exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. vs. Hofstra at Belson
Stadium.
