The St. John's softball team has five freshmen on its 2006
squad. As a rookie, there is a lot to learn, a lot to experience
and a lot of firsts.
Jessica Foley,
Lauren Lupinetti,
Alyssa Clark,
Roxann Struble and
Melissa Pilley will take RedStormSports.com along with them for
the ride. In installment four of "Rookie Diary," Melissa Pilley
will talk about how she has contributed to the team and life in New
York.
Hey St. John's Softball Fans:
My name is Melissa Pilley and I am a freshman outfielder for the
St. John's softball team. I am originally from Phoenix, Ariz.
This past weekend in our win over No. 20/21 Louisville, I scored
one of our team's four runs against the Cardinals. It was great to
see some action in the game and I was happy to utilize one of my
best assets, my speed, to help out our team. I am glad that coach
had the confidence in me to put me in as a pinch runner in that
situation.
The transition to college has been a lot easier because of being
on the team. It is much easier to meet people and as one of five
freshmen on the team, it is cool to know we're all going through
the same thing. All five of us are from the west coast and there
were a lot of different situations to get used to here in New
York.
Living in New York has been really cool so far. It's refreshing
to be around all the different cultures and the constant activity
of the city. It has given me the opportunity to experience new
food, new people and even new weather!
Thanks and Go Red Storm!
Melissa Pilley, #1
